Want to hear opera's greatest arias in an intimate setting, accompanied with anecdotes in English and a complimentary glass of Prosecco? A hidden gem is Rome Concerts (now Rome Opera Concerts, ed), just metres from Castel Sant'Angelo and near the Vatican. Tell them "ciao!" from me and you might just get an extra Prosecco!
I brought my mum to Rome for her 60th and as a fan of opera, I thought I'd try to book a show. I seen this on trip advisor and due to the fantastic reviews I booked it. It exceeded my expectations! I genuinely don't think I've ever been so impressed with singers and musicians of any variety. I've been to lots of shows and love music and our experience at this show was out of this world. There was only about 7/8 rows in this lovely chapel directly across from Castel Sant'Angelo and it was the perfect setting. The acoustics were phenomenal and the soprano Monica and the tenor Alessandro had voices that actually left us speechless. To hear them in such close quarters was so special. The pianist Giovanni was possibly my favourite though, his Chopin recital was the best live piano I've ever seen. Get chills thinking about it. Free prosecco and snacks at the end really made the whole evening finish on a relaxing and friendly tone. 10/10. Will be back!
The concert was amazing. You sit in a small church with not too many people and you have the musicians right in front of you. The acoustics are incredibly better than any opera house I have ever been in. Its a very personal atmosphere with very nice people.
We can only recommend this concert in complete privacy. The artists are really exceptional, what talent. Thank you for your smiles, your energy, your breathtaking performance from start to finish! Wow! You made us love classical music. Thank you for this magnificent Roman evening.
We were so glad we stumbled upon romeconcerts.org (now romeoperaconcerts.com, ed) and booked our tickets prior to leaving Australia on our 28 day holiday around Italy. Certainly one of the great highlights, being so close to the performers in an intimate setting in central Rome, experiencing the performers' passion for music. You must do this when you are in Rome - THE BEST experience!
Original presentation of Puccini's masterpiece, just opposite Chateau Saint Ange, in a Methodist church, the characters literally lived between us, the spectators. An unproven sensation and direct contact with theatrical action. Essential staging and very faithful to the score, finally! Impeccable singers, especially the tenor Alessandro Fantini who sang the great air of the third act well, E lucevan le stelle. And the stars really shone this night, thanks to the professionalism of the artists. Bravo!!!
